Another individual connected to America’s nuclear sector has vanished, intensifying fears among national security observers. The case raises the question of whether a troubling pattern is emerging around sensitive U.S. facilities.
Steven Garcia, aged 48, went missing on August 28, 2025, after he left his Albuquerque, New Mexico home on foot. Surveillance footage captured him walking away from his residence shortly after 9 a.m., clad in a green camouflage shirt and shorts while carrying a handgun. Authorities stated at the time that he could pose a danger to himself.
According to an anonymous source, Garcia was a government contractor affiliated with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), a significant player in national defense responsible for producing over 80% of the non-nuclear components vital for U.S. nuclear weapons.
The source characterized Garcia as a property custodian involved in a high-level oversight role that encompassed valuable assets, some of which were classified. The source dismissed any claim that Garcia might have been struggling with mental health issues or suicidal tendencies, suggesting instead that foreign entities could be targeting him.
Former FBI assistant director Chris Swecker noted that scientists have been targeted frequently by hostile foreign services, particularly in advanced research sectors.
Following Garcia’s disappearance, KCNSC initiated a search for clues, examining work-related computers and files but found nothing. Concerns are growing as Garcia’s case marks the tenth incident in recent years where individuals linked to U.S. nuclear or space work have vanished or died under mysterious circumstances.
Among these cases is the prominent disappearance of retired Air Force General William Neil McCasland, who went missing in February 2026. McCasland left home without personal devices or eyewear and carried only a revolver.
Two other cases from New Mexico in 2025 involved Los Alamos National Laboratory personnel who, like Garcia, disappeared after last being seen walking away from home.
Links among these cases have also been drawn to Kirtland Air Force Base, Los Alamos, and KCNSC, indicating a troubling connection in the disappearances.
Authorities have not confirmed Garcia’s work details publicly. For now, as investigations continue, his disappearance remains a significant and unsettling question surrounding whether these incidents are mere accidents or part of a more sinister trend.
