Former Congressman Eric Swalwell finds himself in deeper trouble following a CNN report detailing accusations from multiple women. These allegations state that he sent sexually explicit messages, including videos, via Snapchat.
This new controversy arises just weeks after his resignation from Congress amid serious claims of rape and sexual assault from various women. CNN interviewed over a dozen individuals who reported uncomfortable interactions with Swalwell, both in person and digitally, spanning the last decade.
Swalwell, once dubbed the “Snapchat king of Congress” for his early adoption of the platform, used it to connect with constituents. In 2016, he emphasized the importance of enhancing public trust in democracy through platforms like Snapchat.
However, according to CNN, his messages reportedly shifted swiftly from innocent political content to inappropriate and sexual advances. One woman recounted how Swalwell inquired about her clothing soon after messaging her about her future.
Additional accounts reveal that on at least one occasion in 2021, Swalwell transmitted unsolicited explicit photos and videos to several women. A former legislative staffer detailed a consensual yet troubling relationship, during which Swalwell allegedly sent graphic content that was documented by the recipient.
Another woman described receiving flirtatious messages that escalated quickly, prompting her to remind Swalwell of his marital status and family. CNN noted that these recent accusations demonstrate a troubling pattern in his behavior.
As reports continue to circulate, the former congressman allegedly confronted women in the early morning hours over screenshots of his messages. The revelations around Swalwell’s actions raise significant questions about his character and judgment.
