Trump Unloads On Ilhan Omar At White House Briefing: ‘She Never Had a Job’

President Donald Trump delivered fresh political fireworks on Wednesday after personally joining a White House press briefing marking the one-year anniversary of his second-term inauguration, turning his attention toward Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and ongoing scrutiny surrounding her family’s sudden accumulation of wealth.

Trump, who entered the briefing late as officials touted accomplishments from his administration’s first year back in office, paused during remarks on immigration enforcement to take aim at the Minnesota Democrat.

“I was told that Ilhan Omar is worth $30 million. She never had a job. She’s a crooked congressman,” Trump said. He made the comments while highlighting recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, describing the work as dangerous and focused on violent offenders.

The remarks come as House Republicans intensify their investigation into Omar’s finances amid a sprawling Minnesota fraud scandal that has already cost taxpayers an estimated $9 billion. GOP lawmakers have questioned how Omar and her husband, political consultant Tim Mynett, went from near financial collapse to potentially being worth tens of millions of dollars in just over a year.

According to Omar’s 2024 financial disclosure, the bulk of the family’s newfound wealth is tied to Rose Lake Capital, an investment firm co-founded by Mynett in 2022. Court filings from a lawsuit involving a related entity show Rose Lake had just $42.44 in its bank account in late 2022. By the following year, the firm’s value was listed as high as $25 million.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer confirmed that committee attorneys are now weighing whether to subpoena Mynett over what he described as questionable business dealings.

“We’re going to get answers, whether it’s through the Ethics Committee or the Oversight Committee, one of the two,” Comer said. “There are a lot of questions as to how her husband accumulated so much wealth over the past two years. It’s not possible. It’s not. I’m a money guy. It’s not possible.”

Federal law enforcement has also taken interest. A law enforcement source told The New York Post that investigators are examining political figures potentially tied to the Minnesota fraud scheme, noting that scrutiny has intensified under the Trump administration.

“We are investigating all politicians potentially connected to any of this in Minnesota. You can read between the lines,” the source said, adding that unlike in prior years, “Team Trump is on top of it.”

The FBI was briefed during the Biden administration on concerns surrounding companies linked to Mynett, according to The Post. Wall Street sources consulted by the outlet described Rose Lake Capital as a “red flag,” citing a lack of verifiable track record despite claims that firm leadership previously managed $60 billion in assets.

Several high-profile names once listed as advisers to Rose Lake have since disappeared from the firm’s website, including former Sen. Max Baucus. Baucus said he was never asked for permission to be listed and described past communications with the firm as “a little bit fishy.”

Republicans argue the timing of the wealth surge, combined with Omar’s political connections, warrants formal action.

“The explosion of wealth, plus the fact that convicted fraudsters helped fund Ilhan Omar’s campaign, is worth an investigation by the Ethics Committee at the very least,” said House Majority Whip Tom Emmer.
