President Trump is providing further insights into his decision to replace White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, appreciating her contributions while recognizing the necessity of leadership adjustments following the significant midterm election losses for Republicans.
Addressing reporters outside the White House, Trump made his remarks just hours after announcing that senior adviser Stephen Miller would be stepping into the crucial role.
Though Wiles has been let go, the president expressed his respect for her work.
“I think @SusieWiles has done a very good job, great job,” he stated.
Trump also briefly explained the rationale behind his decision, indicating that changes in leadership are sometimes essential, even when officials have performed admirably.
“We’ve got to make moves. Sometimes in life, you have to make moves,” he added.
The comments were made before Trump left for Florida, shedding light on a significant personnel shift in his administration.
He confirmed that Miller, the current deputy White House chief of staff for policy, would officially take over on Monday, Nov. 9.

Wiles will not completely exit Trump’s circle; she will transition to his political operation instead.
Previously, Trump lauded both officials in a Truth Social announcement, identifying Miller as a trusted adviser and thanking Wiles for her service.
POLL: Did You Vote Republican In The Midterms?
This leadership change comes shortly after Democrats gained control of both chambers of Congress, raising concerns about the strategic direction of Trump’s presidency in its final two years.
Nevertheless, Trump did not directly link Wiles’ departure to the election outcomes in his statements.
Praising her performance, Wiles shared an emotional message on X, stating, “Today is my last day as White House Chief of Staff. Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime. I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First.”

The seasoned Republican strategist conveyed gratitude towards her colleagues while affirming her ongoing commitment to Trump despite the role change.
“More than anything, I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside,” Wiles remarked. “While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.”
Wiles was instrumental in Trump’s successful 2024 presidential campaign and made history as the first woman to hold the chief of staff position.
Her extensive experience with political operations established her as a vital figure during Trump’s re-emergence in Washington.
In contrast, Miller has become a prominent advocate for stringent immigration policies and border security.

His ascendance places a devoted MAGA ally in a key operational role as Trump braces for a Democratic-led Congress.
The appointment has already faced backlash from Democratic lawmakers and progressive commentators opposed to Miller’s immigration stance.
Despite this, Trump has continued to affirm Miller’s place within his inner circle.
The White House has yet to provide further information regarding Wiles’ new role in Trump’s political operation.
While the timing of this shift raises questions, neither Trump nor Wiles framed the transition as a punitive measure for the recent Republican election lackluster.
For now, Trump supports Wiles while moving ahead with a new chief of staff.
Miller is slated to assume his role on Monday, Nov. 9, as Wiles adapts to her new position within Trump’s political team after nearly two years of leading the White House.
