Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Joe Gruters, the current Republican National Committee Chairman, endorsing him for reelection after a challenging electoral cycle for the GOP.
Gruters, a seasoned ally of Trump, faces a crucial leadership vote in January as the party seeks to strengthen its position for the upcoming 2028 elections. Trump publicly expressed his desire for Gruters to guide the national party through this critical period.
In his endorsement, Trump referred to Gruters as a “MAGA Warrior,” highlighting his longstanding dedication and leadership. Trump praised Gruters for transforming the RNC into a powerful force that champions the America First agenda.
Gruters stepped into the role of chairman in August 2025, earning unanimous support amid his close association with Trump. Before this, he held the position of treasurer for the committee.
This endorsement also underscores Gruters’ robust track record in Florida politics, which Trump highlighted in connection to their long-standing partnership predating Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Trump pointed out Gruters’ contributions as a State Senator and Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, which played vital roles in achieving significant victories in key elections, including Trump’s three major wins in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
Under Gruters’ leadership, Florida Republicans made substantial gains and flipped the voter registration advantage previously held by Democrats.
Their collaboration dates back to when Gruters led the Sarasota County Republican Party. Trump reminisced about being awarded Statesman of the Year by Gruters multiple times.
Additionally, Trump positioned Gruters as an essential partner for the next presidential election cycle. He urged Republicans nationwide to rally behind Gruters as he aims to propel the party’s mission forward and uphold the principles of free and fair elections.
While Tuesday’s election results signaled losses at the national level for Republicans, Florida managed to secure victories in every statewide office and maintain its congressional representation. Sydney Gruters, Joe’s wife, also achieved success in the 16th Congressional District.
