Republicans are struggling to elect a Speaker of the House, and while many are standing behind Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for Speaker, other Republicans like Mike Rogers (R-AL) are reportedly talking with Democrats about a deal.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) shared on “Meet the Press” that he has been having conversations with some Republicans about governing the house with a coalition, a shared power move.
Host of ‘Meet the Press’ Kristen Welker asked Jeffries if he was allowing his members to vote for a Republican for Speaker of the House and if they had identified a Republican candidate he would be willing to support.
Jeffries informed Welker there was no candidate and instead shared that he wanted the rules “re-evaluated” revealing the Democrats want a shared power coalition in the House.

Jeffries continued to share that he is ready to make the “informal conversations” formal and “end the Republican civil war.” Democrats are chomping at the bit to take advantage of the internal Republican rift.

Coalition-led governments are very common in Europe but are not something that has been done in the United States on the Federal level.
Monday may hold a lot of revelations in the turmoil the House has faced in trying to pick a Speaker. Many are hoping the Republicans can push Jordan through as Speaker of the House.
We may see a move to change the rules of the House and instead see a coalition take over leadership in the House.
