Former Governor of Maryland Larry Hogan (R) believes it is “close to being over” for Ron DeSantis in the 2024 race.
Hogan was asked to give his evaluation of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the GOP primary. Hogan started, “I think DeSantis has really underperformed.” He went on to talk about all of the attention DeSantis has gotten with “wall-to-wall coverage on Fox News”. The only other candidate other than Trump that has gotten a lot of media attention.
“But then he started making all kinds of mistakes,” Hogan stated. “I think the campaign is one of the worst I’ve seen so far and he’s dropped like a rock. I think people started to say ‘Well maybe we’re willing to consider someone other than Trump’. They took a look at Ron DeSantis and then went back to Trump. I think he dropped 18-20 points in the polls, now you’re seeing other people rise up.” Hogan added that he believes that someone currently polling below DeSantis has a chance to surpass him.
Hogan was then asked, “Is it over for DeSantis?”
“I think it’s getting close to being over… at this point, he’s headed in the wrong direction,” he answered. Hogan sees DeSantis’s fatal flaws are not connecting with people, and not being a good campaigner or debater.
He is no longer the guy to beat according to Hogan. DeSantis it seems may have burned too bright and is now losing steam at a rapid pace. Hogan did point out that a comeback is possible but he doesn’t seem to think DeSantis has that potential.
See Hogans remarks below:
It’s important to note that Hogan is very anti Donald Trump, therefore, either he’s likely correct about DeSantis, or he has some other agenda up his sleeve which has yet to be revealed, or both.
