On Friday it was reported by Wood TV, that last month a brave armed citizen “calmly” shot an armed robber multiple times for trying to rob a gas station called “Stone Lake Marathon” in Cassopolis, Michigan.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 27th, but the surveillance footage was made public on Friday.
The suspect, a 35-year-old named Cordelius Anthony Martin, walked into the store and yelled, “You know why I’m here.”
He then threatened the store owner with a box cutter, before catching a hail of bullets.
The video begins with the customer holding a six-pack of Miller Lite, while Martin, dressed in black, enters the store. Martin then goes behind the counter and approaches the store clerk with the box cutter.
The customer, who has a valid concealed-carry permit, pulls out his handgun and fires six straight shots while holding his beer. A moment later, he fires one last bullet.
One bullet strikes a liquor bottle while multiple others strike Martin in the arm, back, and face. Somehow the suspect survived the gunfire.
The customer informed the police that the suspect dropped to the floor but continued to crawl toward him. In response, he quickly went to his car to grab another loaded gun and kept Martin under control at gunpoint until the police arrived.
You might expect this armed and vigilant citizen to be awarded a medal for his actions. However, instead of recognition, he’s potentially facing jail time.
Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz claims he is waiting for police to finish the investigation making a decision on whether or not to file criminal charges against the customer.
The unnamed store owner told Wood TV that the heroic customer saved his life.
Martin was sent to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and was released on Wednesday. He has been arraigned on three charges, including armed robbery. He also faces life in prison because he is a three-time felon.
