Federal Agents Conduct Large-Scale Raids on Somali-Owned Businesses in Minneapolis

In a significant operation on Tuesday, federal agents executed raids at more than 20 Minneapolis locations, primarily targeting a network of businesses mostly owned by the Somali community.

The operation involved 22 federal search warrants, coordinated by federal, state, and local law enforcement under a court-approved initiative.

A spokesperson from the Department of Justice noted, “Today, the FBI, along with various law enforcement agencies, is undertaking court-sanctioned activities as part of an ongoing investigation into fraud.”

Officials clarified that this investigation is unrelated to immigration issues. Instead, it focuses on alleged fraud linked to government-funded programs.

Reports indicate that some child care providers may have billed for services not actually rendered, raising serious concerns about potential misappropriation of funds.

Among the establishments raided were Quality Learning Center and Baby Halimo Child Care, both located in Minneapolis.

This crackdown reflects an escalating effort to address fraud allegations concerning Minnesota’s social service programs, particularly child care assistance, amidst growing concerns about misuse of public funds.

Quality Learning Center attracted attention previously when a blogger, Nick Shirley, visited various daycare sites, uncovering closed storefronts and unresponsive occupants.

During his attempts to enroll a child, Shirley reported difficulties in verifying operational status at several locations.

The investigation is still ongoing, and as of this morning, no arrests or charges related to Tuesday’s raids have been disclosed.
