Congressman Wesley Hunt Stands Firm Against Race-Baiting Tactics

U.S. Representative Wesley Hunt (R-TX) firmly rejected the notion that racial quotas are important in Congress, especially following a Supreme Court decision regarding the Voting Rights Act (VRA) that could significantly affect multiple congressional districts in the South.

As Hunt prepares to retire after an unsuccessful Senate campaign, a reporter from the far-left media outlet Meidas Touch questioned him about the Republican conference’s diversity. Several other long-serving black Republicans have also chosen not to run for re-election or pursue higher offices.

The reporter asked, “There’s been a lot of talk how there won’t be any Black Republican members in the new term. What do you make of that?”

Hunt’s response was simple: “Nothing. I don’t understand how that’s relevant. I don’t care how many Black people are here.” This clip was later shared, but it was selectively edited, omitting the congressman’s more comprehensive remarks.

He further stated, “I’m not here because I’m black. I am here because I am a qualified representative for Congressional District 38. One thing I don’t want to get into is this game of race bait all day every day. If there’s four, if there’s 10, if there’s none. We’re talking about who is the best person that is best qualified to fill a seat regardless of the way that they look.”

Hunt added, “And I tell people this all the time till I’m blue in the face. I represent a white majority district that President Trump would have won by over 20 points and I won by over 25 points last time. I ran being judged not by the color of my skin but the content of my character. Don’t care how many black people are here. I want the most qualified people that are here. And thank you.”
