Amazon is currently discussing the possibility of rebooting the iconic reality series “The Apprentice,” which once dominated television ratings. According to reports, the company is considering a familiar name for the boardroom—Donald Trump Jr.
With Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, they now hold production rights for the show. Any new version is expected to stream on Amazon Prime, distancing it from its original NBC broadcast.
Since its debut in 2004, “The Apprentice” followed aspiring executives competing for a position with the Trump Organization. It enjoyed a remarkable 15-season run before pausing during Donald Trump’s political career.
As Trump gears up for a potential second term, discussions are underway within Amazon about Trump Jr. possibly stepping into the host role. He has been a prominent figure in the Trump family business and appeared as a recurring boardroom advisor in the original series.
President Trump commented on the potential reboot when asked about it, noting his son’s charisma and expressing the belief that he could perform well in that capacity.
Notably, Amazon has yet to formally approach Trump Jr. or any other family members regarding the reboot. A source close to Trump Jr. mentioned that this was the first time he had heard his name involved in such discussions.
An Amazon spokesperson clarified that their rights stem from MGM’s earlier deal with the show’s creator, Mark Burnett, who has a successful background with several reality hits.
This potential reboot is yet another connection Amazon has with the Trump family, following the recent release of a well-received biopic about Melania Trump. The project garnered both acclaim and criticism, which is typical in today’s media landscape.
Trump has long acknowledged “The Apprentice” as vital to his public persona, humorously suggesting at one point that viewers should pray for Arnold Schwarzenegger, who took over hosting duties after him.
