AstraZeneca Could Potentially Incur a Cost of £255 Million Due to Concerns Over the Efficacy of Its COVID Vaccine

AstraZeneca could potentially face a compensation bill of over £250 million due to alleged vaccine-related injuries, according to MailOnline.

Fifty-one families are currently pursuing legal action against the pharmaceutical company, claiming that the “defective” AstraZeneca Covid vaccine caused injuries and deaths. Lawyers involved in the case believe that some victims could receive payouts of up to £5 million.

The total compensation bill, which would be funded by taxpayers due to a deal between AstraZeneca and the government, could reach £255 million if judges determine that the vaccine was responsible for all injuries and deaths in the class action. However, the exact claims have not yet been quantified and some cases may receive more or less than the estimated £5 million.

AstraZeneca recently admitted for the first time that its vaccine could cause a blood clotting syndrome linked to some of the lawsuits. Victims and their families are seeking compensation under the Consumer Protection Act 1987, arguing that the vaccine was a “defective product” that did not meet safety expectations.

AstraZeneca denies these claims and maintains that its vaccine has an acceptable safety profile. The risk of developing thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) from the AstraZeneca jab is estimated to be one in 50,000.
