Tribute to Pierre Deny, Notable Actor from ‘Emily in Paris’

Pierre Deny, the talented French actor who portrayed luxury executive Louis de Léon in Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris,’ has sadly passed away at the age of 69. His family reported that he succumbed to complications related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Deny made notable appearances in seasons three and four of the acclaimed series, sharing the screen with stars like Lily Collins. He played the head of the fashion company JVMA and was the father of Nicholas de León, played by Paul Forman, who was romantically linked to Emily’s close friend, Mindy Chen, portrayed by Ashley Park.

His daughters shared the devastating news in a statement to AFP, confirming his passing due to a sudden and severe case of ALS.

The announcement expressed, “It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday.”

ALS is a chronic condition that steadily deteriorates nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control and movement. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this progressive disease, and its progression can differ greatly among individuals.

Outside of his work on ‘Emily in Paris,’ Deny was a beloved figure on French television. He was featured in more than 500 episodes of the soap opera ‘Demain nous appartient’ (Tomorrow Belongs To Us), where he earned a reputation as a reliable and engaging performer.

French singer and actress Sylvie Vartan paid her respects to Deny on Instagram, stating, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Pierre Deny.” She reminisced about their enjoyable times together on stage in Isabelle Mergault’s play.

Vartan described him as a generous and thoughtful actor. “During these painful moments, my thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” she added.

His colleague from ‘Demain nous appartient,’ Luce Mouchel, also shared heartfelt memories, emphasizing their long-standing camaraderie on set.

Mouchel reflected, “Pierre, we spent 7 years filming together, sharing train rides, lunches in the cafeteria, and confiding in one another. A decade of life together that ended far too soon.”

She concluded with condolences for his daughters, admiring their strength during this trying time. “Thinking of you, my last visit and your sparkling eyes, rest in peace, Dr. Dumaze.”
