Ilhan Omar Evades Questions Amid Fraud Investigation Backlash

Rep. Ilhan Omar has come under fire following allegations linking her to Minnesota’s extensive “Feeding Our Future” fraud case, which reportedly cost taxpayers around $250 million.

This week, when approached by Fox News Digital in Congress, Omar was asked if she had influenced Minnesota Democrats to block a subpoena related to the investigation. She ignored the question and continued walking.

Questions regarding her willingness to participate in a potential House Oversight Committee investigation and provide pertinent documents were also sidestepped.

The controversy surrounding Omar has intensified as Minnesota Republicans press for transparency related to the Feeding Our Future debacle, which is among the largest fraud incidents from the COVID era in the nation.

Recently, Minnesota state Rep. Kristin Robbins, who chairs the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee, invited Omar to testify. She has also requested documents linked to Omar’s communications with Feeding Our Future figures, as well as connections to Safari Restaurant in Minneapolis. Omar, however, chose not to attend.

NEW: Accusations Suggest Ilhan Omar Was Aware of $250 Million Fraud Operations

A Republican-led attempt to subpoena Omar was ultimately thwarted when Democrats opposed the measure. Robbins later indicated that lawmakers might seek Congressional assistance to access records linked to the investigation.

Republicans have critically evaluated Omar’s endorsement of the MEALS Act, a 2020 federal COVID-19 relief initiative that broadened waiver powers for USDA nutrition programs during the pandemic. Detractors argue that this legislation weakened oversight and enabled fraudsters to exploit the system.

The controversy involves Feeding Our Future, a now-defunct nonprofit in Minnesota accused of managing a widespread fraud operation that involved submitting false meal claims through federally funded child nutrition programs. Investigators claim that the scheme included billing the government for meals that were never served.

Aimee Bock, the founder of Feeding Our Future, was convicted in 2025 on various fraud-related counts tied to the operation. In a recent jail interview, she alleged that Omar was aware of parts of the scheme, noting that several operators were connected to the Somali community and had reportedly reached out to Omar’s office for assistance with program waivers. Omar’s office has denied any wrongdoing.

This month, the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee published an 84-page report accusing Gov. Tim Walz’s administration of cultivating a “culture of tolerance” toward fraud and oversight lapses in various state programs.
