Recent polling from Quantus Insights shows that Julia Letlow, who is backed by Trump, has surged to the forefront in the race to unseat incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy in Louisiana’s upcoming Republican primary.
The poll, conducted just days before the primary election, consisted of responses from 1,015 likely Republican voters, yielding a sample size of 1,012 after adjustments. It carries a weighted margin of error of +/- 3 percent and assessed various candidates, including Cassidy, state Treasurer John Fleming, and Mark Spencer.
Letlow is leading the primary ballot with 41.6 percent of support, while John Fleming follows at 29.6 percent. Cassidy, who voted to convict President Trump during the impeachment trial, trails at 19.6 percent.
1.7 percent of voters showed a preference for Spencer, and the undecided voters made up 7.5 percent as the election draws closer. This marks a notable change from a previous February poll, where Fleming led at 34.2 percent and Letlow had 24.6 percent.
Letlow’s backing increased by 17 percentage points since the last survey, while Fleming’s support dipped by around 5 points, and Cassidy’s remained stable with fewer undecided voters.
The latest survey also explored potential runoff scenarios. In a direct match between Letlow and Cassidy, Letlow secured a commanding 63 percent, with Cassidy garnering 23.4 percent. Another hypothetical matchup showed Fleming trailing Letlow by a narrower margin of 45.4 percent to 39.6 percent.
When asked about momentum in their communities, 33.5 percent of respondents identified Letlow, compared to 21.2 percent for Fleming and 11.2 percent for Cassidy, leaving nearly a third uncertain.
Voter attitudes toward Trump were also examined, revealing 61.3 percent of respondents strongly approving of his performance. Among those highlighting MAGA alignment, Letlow garnered 49.3 percent support, remaining ahead among fervent Trump supporters.
As the primary election on May 16 approaches, Letlow’s campaign is gaining favorable traction among Louisiana Republicans, offering a strong signal for potential outcomes.
