Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, is experiencing a positive turn in his health following a severe case of pneumonia that had him in critical condition recently.
On Tuesday, his son, Andrew Giuliani, reported that the 81-year-old has regained consciousness and is no longer requiring a ventilator.
“Good news update: Thank you for the love and support you’ve shown my Dad over the past few days,” the younger Giuliani expressed.
“Just yesterday he was in critical condition, so I’m incredibly grateful to share that he is now conscious, off the ventilator, and even cracking jokes.”
Giuliani was hospitalized due to pneumonia, which sources suggest may be linked to ongoing respiratory issues from his exposure to harmful dust after the September 11 attacks. He played a pivotal role during that crisis, coordinating emergency responses as the city faced immense challenges.
Friends noted that the former mayor may have briefly fallen into a coma before waking up, marking a significant milestone in his recovery.
Tom Von Essen, a long-time ally and former New York City fire commissioner during 9/11, commented that Giuliani’s condition appears to be improving.
“It looks like Rudy has turned a corner. We hope he continues to improve,” Von Essen stated, after being briefed on the situation.
“I worry about him. What he has done for New York City and the compassion he showed 9/11 families is remarkable. I hope he has a great recovery.”
Giuliani gained national recognition during the 9/11 crisis, earning the moniker “America’s mayor” for his steady leadership as New Yorkers coped with the tragedy. His response during this time profoundly defined his career.
Since then, Giuliani has remained a prominent figure in Republican circles and a steadfast ally of President Donald Trump, frequently making appearances on cable news and the campaign trail. Despite facing various legal and political challenges in recent years, he has managed to maintain a devoted following.
Those close to him believe that his resilience is shining through once more as he navigates this recent health issue, with initial signs of recovery emerging after what seemed a daunting situation just days ago.
