Hunter Biden Exits the U.S. Amid Growing Legal Issues

In a turn of events, Hunter Biden has reportedly vacated the United States as his legal and financial predicaments intensify, according to recent court documentation.

His attorney, Barry Coburn, noted this in an April 6 filing related to a civil case involving outstanding legal expenses. The document indicated, “Mr. Biden lives abroad” and emphasized his inability to pay his current legal team.

Though the precise location of his residence remains undisclosed, it’s known that the 56-year-old had expressed affinity for Cape Town, South Africa, where his wife hails from.

Previously, Biden stated, “When all of the political and personal stuff came to an end in the last six months, I had always promised that we would spend some time over here,” during a November appearance on The Wide Awake Podcast. He added, “We’re trying to be between Cape Town and the States, go back and forth.”

His fondness for Cape Town was evident as he remarked, “I’ve fallen madly in love with Cape Town. You guys do not know how good you have it here. It’s the most beautiful city in the world.”

Despite indications of a permanent move overseas, Biden was captured in family photographs shared on Instagram by his sister, Ashley Biden, during a visit to Santa Ynez, California, over the Easter weekend, alongside his father, former President Joe Biden, and Jill Biden.

The latest updates emerged in a D.C. civil lawsuit brought by Winston & Strawn LLP, a firm that has represented him in notorious criminal cases. The filing reveals that he still owes a “substantial portion” of his legal fees and currently lacks the means to address them.

Furthermore, the document outlines that he has been forced to independently search through his emails for pertinent records, lacking access to outside assistance. Biden openly disclosed the financial burdens he bears, claiming he is encumbered by “$17 million in debt … as it relates to my legal fees.”

Biden’s legal troubles have been far-reaching. In 2024, he faced conviction for illegally purchasing a firearm in 2018 after evidence proved he falsely declared he was free of drug use while battling a crack cocaine addiction.

Additionally, he pleaded guilty to nine federal tax charges, three of which were felonies, linked to evading $1.4 million in taxes from 2016 to 2019. Ultimately, in December 2024, President Joe Biden issued a broad pardon, absolving his son’s federal offenses.
