A Fox News video clip was posted to Twitter of Johnny Joey Jones lightly sticking Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis with a tough question.
In summary, Jones pointed out that while DeSantis and former President Donald Trump may not have all the same policies, they do share many of them, and they also share much of the same voter base.
DeSantis was asked why he doesn’t wait until 2028 to run for president since Trump is also running in 2024, and is the front runner. DeSantis appeared to imply that Donald Trump can’t beat Joe Biden.
DeSantis: “because, the, everyone knows if I’m the nominee I will beat Biden, uh, and I will serve two terms, and I will be able to destroy leftism in this country and leave “woke” ideology on the dustbin of history. Uh, at the end of the day, I’ve shown in Florida an ability to win in huge swaths of voters that Republicans typically can’t win while also delivering the boldest agenda anywhere in the country. And I think there’s a reason why the legacy media’s attacking me more than they’re attacking anybody else because I think they realize that if I’m successful in winning the Republican nomination, we’re going to bring it home in the general election, and I’ve pledged to Republican voters, if you nominate me, I will be taking the oath of office on January 20th 2025 on the west side of the Capitol, no excuses, no more excuses about why we can’t get it done, we need to get it done, and I will get it done.”
It may be true that DeSantis can win more moderates, but that doesn’t mean he can beat Trump in the primary, or that he isn’t hurting the party by dividing many Republicans who are now bickering and fighting amongst each other, particularly on Twitter.
Time will tell as primary season continues if DeSantis has any chance.
