British television personality Piers Morgan is recovering in a London hospital after suffering a broken femur in what he described as an embarrassing fall at a restaurant over the weekend.
The 60-year-old broadcaster took to social media to share news of his injury with his characteristic wit, posting “Breaking news!!!” to announce the incident.
Morgan explained that he “fell like a sack of spuds” on a small step while at a London dining establishment.
The mishap resulted in a fractured hip that will require surgical intervention.
The television host revealed he will need a hip replacement procedure to repair the damage from the fall.
Following the surgery, Morgan said he faces a recovery period that will keep him on crutches for approximately six weeks.
Despite the severity of his injury, Morgan maintained his sense of humor about the situation.
He joked that his “New Year off to a cracking start!” before adding a humorous political jab, stating “I blame Donald Trump!”
In a follow-up social media post, Morgan shared an image from newspaper coverage of his accident.
The photo included an X-ray showing the fractured femur bone.
Questions arose about the circumstances surrounding Morgan’s fall when a former colleague from “Good Morning Britain” asked on air whether alcohol had played a role in the incident.
Morgan was quick to set the record straight.
Taking to X, Morgan issued a direct clarification.
“To clarify, there was ZERO alcohol involved in the incident,” he wrote, shutting down any speculation about his sobriety at the time of the fall.
The broadcaster’s relationship with Trump has evolved significantly over the years.
Morgan previously appeared as a contestant on Trump’s NBC reality program “Celebrity Apprentice,” but has since become an outspoken critic of the 47th president, according to the U.K. Independent.
Morgan’s recent criticisms of Trump have been particularly pointed.
Last month, he condemned Trump for comments made about late director and television star Rob Reiner following Reiner’s death.
Trump had posted on Truth Social describing Reiner as someone who suffered from Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Morgan responded forcefully on his podcast, “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” declaring that Trump’s comments about Reiner crossed “every line of basic human decency.”
The television host has also taken issue with Trump’s stated interest in acquiring Greenland from Denmark.
Morgan used the topic as an opportunity for satire on social media.
On Saturday, prior to his fall, Morgan posted a tongue-in-cheek proposal on X.
“Britain should repurchase America. After all, it was ours once, and it would enhance our North Atlantic security,” he wrote, mocking Trump’s Greenland ambitions.
Morgan continued the jest with language mirroring Trump’s own style. “If you don’t sell it to us, President Trump, we’re going to impose tariffs on the U.S. and any country who supports you in resisting this very good deal. Fair?” he added.
