Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was briefly in a panicked state on Tuesday after a bomb threat reported on a United Airlines flight. The airport had to make a stop on the ground and respond with emergency measures on the tarmac.
According to audio from the flight, the air traffic controllers alerted the pilot to an unconfirmed threat and instructed him to pull the plane to the side of the runway.
Authorities swept up the area and isolated the plane while passengers were removed from the aircraft.
The airport posted on X that “all flight operations have been suspended at Reagan National as passengers from a United Airlines flight were being unloaded and transported to the terminal by bus.” We will update you as soon as we have more information.
Officials at the airport confirmed that a runway was reopened by 12:50 pm and that normal operations were resumed shortly after.
The FAA has been informed of an alleged security breach on an airplane at Reagan Washington National Airport. The agency said that passengers have been taken off the plane and it is now away from the terminal as authorities conduct an investigation.
