White House Deploys Federal Forces to Combat DC Crime

President Donald Trump is following through on his promise to Make DC Safe Again by ordering a major surge of federal law enforcement into the nation’s capital in response to soaring violent crime — including this week’s brutal street attack on a former DOGE worker nicknamed “Big Balls.”

The deployment begins midnight Thursday and will run at least seven days, with the option to extend “as needed,” according to a senior administration official.

The operation will bring together Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, DEA, and other federal agencies alongside local law enforcement to flood high-crime areas and tourist hotspots with officers.

“No Safe Harbor” for Criminals

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News:

“Washington, DC is an amazing city, but it has been plagued by violent crime for far too long… Starting tonight, there will be no safe harbor for violent criminals in D.C.”

Leavitt emphasized Trump’s commitment to making the capital safe for residents, lawmakers, and visitors.

Part of Trump’s “Safe and Beautiful DC” Plan

The move builds on Trump’s March executive order establishing the Making DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force, which mandates:

  • Increased federal law enforcement presence in coordination with local police.

  • Coverage of key sites, including the National Mall, museums, monuments, Union Station, Rock Creek Park, and major parkways.

  • Review of pretrial detention policies to ensure dangerous offenders are held.

  • Maximum enforcement of federal immigration law — including redirecting resources to arrest and deport illegal aliens in the DC area.

Promise Kept

A source close to the president said the crackdown is directly delivering on a core campaign promise:

“President Trump promised to Make DC Safe Again on the campaign trail — this is another promise kept.”

The president’s directive comes amid growing outrage over violent crime in the capital, with many residents and lawmakers demanding stronger action after years of soft-on-crime policies and lax prosecutions.
