A newly released police video shows South Carolina Democrat gubernatorial candidate William “Mullins” McLeod being arrested in his underwear while unleashing an unhinged tirade filled with profanity, racial slurs, and bizarre self-comparisons.
The footage, obtained by the Post and Courier, captures the May 15 incident in downtown Charleston.
Arrested Yelling in the Street
According to police, McLeod, 53, was found “yelling at the top of his lungs” while wearing only underwear and shoes. The Charleston Police Department released the one-hour video on August 12 following a Freedom of Information request.
In the footage, McLeod repeatedly screams, hurls the n-word, and bizarrely compares himself to God and Superman. “I’m one of the most just humans to ever walk this soil,” he declares at one point from the back of a patrol car. “I’m Superman, goddmn it.”

Threats Against Republican Officials
Later in the video, McLeod — a married father of four — threatens multiple GOP politicians, including South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, who is also running for governor. “I’m gonna kick your f**king teeth in!” he yells.
He then refuses to exit the patrol vehicle upon arrival at the Al Cannon Detention Center, telling officers: “I’m not getting out of this car. It’s time to go to bed.”
Possible Drug Influence
A preliminary incident report cited by WCBD stated that McLeod’s eyes were “extremely bloodshot and highly dilated,” suggesting he may have been under the influence of a stimulant. It is unclear whether any drug testing was performed.
Facing Charges, Calls to Drop Out
McLeod has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, according to the New York Post.
Christale Spain, chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, has called for McLeod to withdraw from the gubernatorial race: “It is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges and should focus on his mental and emotional well-being instead of a campaign for governor.”
