Charlamagne tha God, host of The Breakfast Club, hit back at President Donald Trump on Monday, continuing a high-profile public feud that erupted over the weekend after Charlamagne criticized Trump’s second-term performance in an interview with Lara Trump.
The exchange began Saturday on My View with Lara Trump, when Charlamagne accused the president of failing to deliver on key campaign promises, particularly for lower-income Americans.
“I wouldn’t give it a good rating, simply because the least of us are still being impacted by the worst,” Charlamagne said, claiming that Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” could negatively affect programs like Medicaid.
Trump Fires Back: “Low-IQ Sleazebag”
President Trump responded with a scathing Truth Social post Sunday, labeling Charlamagne a:
“Racist sleazebag… a low-IQ individual [who] has no idea what words are coming out of his mouth and knows nothing about me or what I have done.”
Trump defended his record on the economy, immigration, and foreign policy, arguing that his administration has delivered for all Americans.
Charlamagne Responds: “I’m Rooting for You — But Stay Focused”
Charlamagne laughed off the insults Monday during The Breakfast Club, joking:
“Depending on who you ask, [sleazebag] may apply to me. I personally prefer friendly, neighborhood a–hole.”
However, he pushed back on Trump’s “racist” accusation, pointing out that he never brought up race in the Lara Trump interview:
“He called me a racist… I didn’t mention race, not one time on Lara Trump!”
Charlamagne then turned the focus back to Trump’s civil rights record, pointing to past executive actions aimed at dismantling diversity and racial equity initiatives, including changes to Smithsonian programming and civil rights oversight.
“They want to reframe cultural memory to eliminate discussions of historical racial injustice,” he said. “I didn’t even bring that up. I was just talking to your base… that you haven’t kept your promises on the economy.”
Final Message: Focus on the Economy and Epstein
Despite the back-and-forth, Charlamagne insisted he was not rooting against Trump, but urging him to stay focused:
“Believe it or not, I’m rooting for you, but I need you focused and, right now, you’re not focused,” he said.
“We need you focused on two things: the economy and Epstein. I need you to keep the promises of a great economy and the promises of transparency with the Epstein files.”
He closed the segment by awarding Trump “Donkey of the Day,” a recurring feature on The Breakfast Club, reserved for what the host deems tone-deaf behavior.
