Bodycam footage released Tuesday shows the moment a Florida woman charged a police officer with a large knife before being shot in Port St. Joe.
The incident occurred on August 15 and involved 41-year-old Tekila Walker, who police say was connected to several hit-and-run crashes before the confrontation.
The Confrontation
According to the footage, officers first attempted to stop Walker using a taser, but the effort failed. Moments later, she leapt out of her car wielding a 16-inch fillet knife and ran toward a police sergeant.
“She came at me with a knife, what the h*ll did you expect me to do?” the officer is heard saying on camera after firing multiple shots.
Aftermath
Walker suffered two gunshot wounds but survived.
She was treated at a local hospital before being arrested on September 1.
She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and Resisting arrest with violence.
Ongoing Investigation
Port St. Joe Police Chief Jake Richards confirmed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
