Volodymyr Zelensky: ‘Trump Doesn’t Really Know What’s Going on in Ukraine’

Former President Donald Trump may not fully grasp the situation in Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, Zelensky said on Friday that he would be happy to bring the Republican nominee up to speed if he returns to the White House in 2024.

In an exclusive interview with the BBC in London, Zelensky claimed that Trump might not fully understand the situation in Ukraine but added that he is willing to work with whoever holds power in Washington.

“Maybe he really doesn’t understand what goes on in Ukraine, so we have to work with the United States,” Zelensky told the BBC, repeating his previous claim Trump would somehow be out of his depth in dealing with events in Eastern Europe.

Last year, Zelensky expressed concern about the potential return of Trump while also begging for additional American-made Patriot missile systems.

He admitted to having concerns about how the Republican leader would have responded if Russia had invaded during his presidency.

The Ukrainian president has also praised the Biden administration for its response, noting that it has consistently provided billions of dollars in weapons aid to the Eastern European nation since Moscow’s invasion began.

Zelensky is in the UK to participate in a European Political Community (EPC) meeting, where he gave a speech on Thursday afternoon.

The BBC reports that Zelensky met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer earlier. Starmer has pledged to support Ukraine “for as long as it takes” and has committed to spending £3 billion on aid for the country.

On Friday morning, President Zelensky will address the UK cabinet in person, becoming the first foreign leader to do so since U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1997.
