Video Shows Machete-Wielding Man Slice Off Man’s Fingers in NYC

Surveillance video captured the moment a machete-wielding man sliced off the fingers of a man walking his dog on the streets of New York City.

Tayquon Young, a man from the Bronx, had four of his fingers sliced off in the alleged encounter Friday, according to the New York Post (NYP). The incident reportedly occurred around 11:30 a.m. when Young was walking his dog, a pit bull named Chanel, when she began trying to play with another man’s dog.

“They was playing around, his dog didn’t have a leash, my dog was next to me, she wasn’t biting his dog or anything. My dog was trying to play around,” Young told the Post.

The attacker allegedly threatened to behead Young’s dog and later went after Young, he told the NYP.

Security cam footage shows the two dogs running around on the sidewalk with the dog’s respective owners in the corner of the video. A man in a green vest can then be seen pulling a machete from his inner pocket. A few moments later he lunges toward the victim, who is now out of camera view.

Young’s dog appears to rush toward where he was as onlookers ran away from the scene.

Young, 34, was hospitalized following the incident where doctors spent 13 hours reattaching three of the four fingers he lost, the outlet reported. His fourth finger had not been found following the incident.

“He pulls out the machete to cut my dog’s head off. I put my hand out to grab the sword, and he just cut my hand off,” Young told the outlet. “I was in disbelief. … I knew that the fingers were missing, I knew that, but I didn’t want to look down.”

“There is a maniac running around with a machete cutting up people’s hands. I hope the city finds this man and gets him the help that he needs,” Kimtreese Young, his mother, told the Post.

Young revealed to the Post that no one tried to help him.

“They was just watching, recording it on their phones to post on their websites. People wasn’t helping me. I had to tell them to call 911. The owner of the store son was recording me. That’s crazy,” he said.

Crime in NYC had been on the rise in 2024, particularly in the transit system which is now down 36% so far in 2025, according to another NYP report. Misdemeanor assault is up 56%, the outlet noted, citing NYPD data.
