A brutal shootout rocked the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia early Monday morning, leaving three dead and ten injured, including multiple minors. The violence erupted just after 1:00 a.m. on South Etting Street, where dozens had gathered for a late-night street party.
This tragedy is the latest in a weekend of carnage across Philadelphia — and a stark reminder that public safety is collapsing in Democrat-run cities.
Chaos on South Etting Street
According to Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, gunfire broke out in the middle of the gathering and was “indiscriminate.”
-
135 rounds were fired
-
At least six shooters were involved
-
Victims include a 19-year-old, 23-year-old, and 24-year-old male
-
Among the wounded: multiple teens aged 15 to 17, with one in critical condition
Ring camera footage shows terrified residents fleeing, children screaming, and neighbors ducking behind parked cars as makeshift cover.
“The African American Community has become a culture of violence embracing gunplay and criminality.”

A City in Decline: Violence Spikes Over Holiday Weekend
The Grays Ferry shooting wasn’t isolated. Over Fourth of July weekend, six people were killed and 31 injured in shootings across Philadelphia.
In one chilling incident earlier Monday, an off-duty officer was nearly hit as bullets tore through his parked car. His windshield was shattered — yet another reminder that no one is safe.
Law enforcement says the city is being overrun by:
-
Unauthorized block parties
-
Drug-fueled street gatherings
-
Armed gang members roaming neighborhoods
And yet, radical left politicians continue to call for defunding the police and replacing officers with “community programs.”
Restore Order, Enforce the Law — Now
This editorial board offers no apologies: It’s time to put law and order first.
Enough of the excuses. Enough of the excuses. Public safety is not negotiable, and it cannot be sacrificed to appease activist mobs.
The solution is clear:
-
Fully fund police departments
-
Deploy officers in high-crime areas — especially on holidays
-
Prosecute violent offenders with zero tolerance
-
Crack down on illegal gun possession
-
Deport criminal aliens who commit felonies
-
Bring back respect for the rule of law
