Lawmakers are demanding a thorough investigation into the troubling pattern of deaths and disappearances involving U.S. scientists and officials connected to sensitive research. They believe these incidents could pose a significant threat to national security.
Reports indicate that at least 11 individuals with ties to NASA and nuclear research have vanished or been found dead in recent years. The circumstances are particularly alarming when linked to major facilities like NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory, which deal with critical scientific information related to nuclear technology and national defense.
The call for accountability is echoing in Congress.
Republican Chairman James Comer of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is leading the charge. He has reached out to the FBI, Pentagon, NASA, and the Department of Energy regarding recent reports of missing individuals with close ties to sensitive U.S. scientific data.
Comer noted that ‘reports allege that at least ten individuals who had a connection to U.S. nuclear secrets or rocket technology have mysteriously vanished or died.’ He emphasized that should these claims be accurate, they could signify a dire threat to both U.S. security and personnel entrusted with scientific secrets.
He also referenced potential links among a series of mysterious cases that have emerged since early 2023.
President Donald Trump indicated he is aware of the alarming developments and hinted at possible revelations soon. ‘I hope it is random… but some of them were very important people, and we are going to look at it,’ Trump stated.
Alongside Comer, Rep. Eric Burlison is also pressing for updates from the agencies, urging briefings to Congress by the end of April.
The Department of War responded to inquiries claiming that there are no ongoing national security investigations regarding reported disappearances.
This renewed scrutiny comes in the wake of the disappearance of retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William “Neil” McCasland, last seen leaving his home in New Mexico, seemingly attempting to avoid detection.
Additional cases are alarming as well, such as Steven Garcia, who vanished without basic necessities, reportedly linked to nuclear weapons systems.
Another troubling case is that of Monica Jacinto Reza, who went missing while hiking and had recently assumed a significant role at NASA.
Two disappearances related to Los Alamos also continue to draw attention, further stressing the urgency of the investigation.
The White House is now engaged in coordinating efforts across agencies to address these pressing issues. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt affirmed that the administration is taking the situation seriously, coordinating with the FBI to examine all cases collectively for possible connections.
