The University of California, Los Angeles is under fire after a viral video showed professors and faculty members nodding in agreement as a graduating student launched a profanity-laced attack on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Trump administration during a commencement ceremony.
The clip, originally posted to Instagram in June by the speaker, Chinese-American student Jamie Han, has gained widespread attention in recent days, drawing sharp criticism from viewers across the country.
From Graduation Pleasantries to Political Rant
Han began her address with typical graduation remarks but abruptly shifted into a political tirade, accusing ICE agents of being on a “psychotic power trip” and “terrorizing” immigrant families. She punctuated her remarks with, “F*** ICE, and f*** the Trump administration,” drawing applause from the audience and visible approval from several faculty members seated on stage.
She went on to mock ICE agents, telling them to “go touch grass” and “find something less embarrassing and pathetic to do” than enforce U.S. immigration law.
The Full Remarks
In her speech, Han claimed the United States “actively persecutes, scapegoats, and villainizes the indisputable backbone of immigrants,” and positioned herself as a first-generation immigrant “using her voice” to speak out. She said it would have been “tone-deaf” and “hypocritical” to give a speech about speaking up without targeting ICE and Trump’s policies.
Faculty Reaction Sparks Outrage
Rather than distancing themselves from the remarks, some faculty members could be seen nodding in agreement. The reaction has fueled criticism that UCLA tolerates — and even endorses — anti-law enforcement rhetoric at official ceremonies.
Where She Is Now
According to her LinkedIn profile, Han now works in Creative Film Marketing at Walt Disney Studios, contributing to projects under Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm — companies frequently accused of promoting progressive politics in entertainment.
