At a rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, President Trump didn’t hold back when addressing the controversial actor Robert De Niro. While he initially recognized De Niro’s skill as an actor, Trump expressed that his off-screen comments have made it hard to be a fan.
While reminiscing about his show The Apprentice, he took a jab at De Niro: “By the way, is Robert De Niro a moron? He’s a moron. No, there’s something wrong with him. I used to sort of like him or something, but now I can’t even watch him,” drawing laughter from the audience.
Trump went on, “He’s like gross. Then he goes into the comedies. He’s no good for comedies. Maybe somebody should tell him, but he’s terrible.”
Hollywood’s Irony
Addressing the irony of Hollywood executives seeking federal film tax credits, Trump pointed out that some who had criticized him were now seeking his approval. “Guys that have been saying bad crap about me for years are sitting in my office,” Trump remarked, highlighting the changing dynamics.

Trump’s comments reflect a long-standing feud with De Niro, which began in 2011 after De Niro criticized Trump’s remarks regarding Barack Obama’s birthplace. This exchange fueled their ongoing public spat.
De Niro didn’t shy away from his views either, publicly calling Trump a “very low IQ individual” and describing him in less than flattering terms throughout 2016. His infamous outburst at the Tony Awards, stating “F*** Trump,” was met with wild applause but heavily edited for television.
Clearly, the tensions between Trump and De Niro aren’t fading anytime soon, with both sides maintaining their stances in the public eye.
