On Saturday, President Donald Trump raised the possibility of endorsing a primary challenger to U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) after she backed Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) at a campaign event. Massie has been critical of Trump and is currently in a heated primary battle.
Boebert publicly supported Massie during her visit to Kentucky, where she called attention to his dedication to conservative values on social media. Despite Massie’s past vote against Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill last year, Boebert expressed her support for both him and Trump.
She remarked, “Below is my friend Thomas Massie. He loves America and is fighting to save it. Also below is my friend and President, Donald Trump. He’s put his life on the line to save this great country. I support both of these men. I’ve worked with both to preserve freedom and liberty.”

Trump took to Truth Social to express his disappointment, declaring, “Is anyone interested in running against Weak Minded Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District? Even though I long ago endorsed Boebert, if the right person came along, it would be my Honor to withdraw that Endorsement, and endorse a good and proper alternative.”
He added that he would support any candidate willing to challenge Boebert. Trump criticized her decision to campaign for what he termed, “the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country, Thomas Massie.”
Boebert, in her response, stated she was not offended by Trump’s remarks, asserting, “Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended. I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA. Onward.”
Currently, Boebert represents Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which includes the Eastern Plains and parts of Denver’s suburbs. She previously served in the state’s 3rd Congressional District, where she narrowly won reelection against Democrat Adam Frisch in 2022.
With her recent switch to the more Republican-leaning 4th District for the 2024 election, Boebert will be looking to solidify her hold, as her past election margins suggest potential vulnerability to a primary challenge.
