Trump Sets Urgent 48-Hour Ultimatum for Iran

President Donald Trump has announced a strict 48-hour deadline for the Iranian regime to agree to a ceasefire or face severe consequences in the ongoing conflict.

This latest ultimatum revolves around the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for around one-fifth of the world’s oil shipments, which has seen a dramatic decrease in maritime traffic since hostilities began on February 28.

Trump emphasized the urgency through a post on Truth Social, stating, “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them.”

The president’s statement refers to an earlier 10-day extension declared in late March, which set a previous deadline for April 6, 2026. This latest ultimatum builds on Trump’s plans for reducing U.S. military involvement in the ongoing conflict.

During a recent address, Trump indicated that without an agreement, military operations could conclude within two to three weeks. He has signaled a readiness to escalate strikes on Iranian oil infrastructure to swiftly end hostilities.

Describing potential U.S. actions, Trump claimed they would significantly damage Iran, stating that they could bring the country “back to the Stone Ages.” This would involve targeting vital facilities, including power plants, unless Iran meets demands related to the Strait of Hormuz.

<pDespite the U.S. proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire, Iranian media reported that Tehran had rejected it through a third-party intermediary. Mediators involved in discussions led by Pakistan indicated that talks have stalled, with Iranian officials deeming the U.S. demands unacceptable.

<pIran has continued to conduct military operations, reportedly striking Israeli and Gulf targets, while pledging to fight until its conditions are met.

<pIn the wake of the failed ceasefire talks, Trump has elaborated on potential escalation strategies. He has suggested that, should Iran not comply, strikes on energy infrastructure might begin within weeks, increasing pressure on Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
