Trump Reveals Key Points of Nearly Finalized Peace Deal with Iran

Former President Donald Trump recently announced that negotiations with Iran have led to a nearly finalized memorandum of understanding. This agreement is aimed at permanently resolving conflict with Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that the agreement has largely taken shape and is awaiting final details. Key elements include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital sea route for global oil shipments, with further nuances to be detailed soon.

The proposed framework includes a phased strategy. The first step aims to formally conclude active hostilities and ensure safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Additional discussions are anticipated within a 30- to 60-day period, focusing on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, potential relief from sanctions, and related topics. Reports suggest that these talks may involve commitments from Iran to refrain from developing nuclear weapons and arrangements for its enriched uranium stockpile, alongside the U.S. agreeing to lessen restrictions on Iranian ports and certain oil sanctions.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that updates could emerge following diplomatic meetings in India. Trump has engaged with leaders from several countries including Saudi Arabia and Israel regarding the peace framework, with Pakistan acting as a significant mediator in these indirect discussions.

This dialogue builds on a tenuous ceasefire that was established in early April 2026. Considerations under review are likely to enhance inspections of Iran’s uranium supplies, guarantees against renewed attacks, and provisions for Iran’s oil sales.

Officials in Iran have stated that the latest proposals are pending review by the Supreme National Security Council, needing approval from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. A senior Iranian source indicated to Reuters that some differences persist, although substantial progress has been made.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, acknowledged that recent trends have aimed to reduce disputes, but additional dialogue via mediators is imperative. Additionally, Iranian priorities mentioned include ending new U.S. attacks, stabilizing the situation in Lebanon with Hezbollah, lifting the U.S. blockade on shipping, and unfreezing financial assets as preliminary steps.
