Trump Outlines Strategy for Ending Military Action Against Iran

In a recent post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump articulated the key U.S. goals for concluding its conflict with Iran, stressing the reopening of the critical Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for 20% of the world’s oil exports.

According to Trump, the U.S. is nearing its objectives for scaling back military efforts in the region against Iran’s terrorist regime. He outlined several aims, many already realized, as confirmed by the Pentagon.

These objectives include diminishing Iran’s missile capabilities and military strength, with the specific goal of dismantling their Navy, Air Force, and anti-aircraft systems. Trump further insisted on the total dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program to ensure swift U.S. action if threats arise.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have asserted that Iran’s nuclear capabilities are significantly weakened.

Trump emphasized the need to safeguard U.S. allies in the Middle East. He noted the ongoing blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, which has severely impacted global oil markets.

“Other Nations using the Hormuz Strait must police it themselves — America will not! We can assist if needed, but it shouldn’t be essential once the Iranian threat is neutralized,” he stated. “It will be an uncomplicated operation for them.”

The Strait of Hormuz, strategically located between Iran and Oman, is a narrow channel critical for global trade. Its shipping lanes, just two miles wide in certain areas, are crucial for maritime commerce.

In 2025, approximately 20 million barrels of oil and petroleum products passed through the strait daily, representing a significant portion of global oil consumption. The region also facilitates a substantial share of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, predominantly flowing to Asia.

Since hostilities escalated on February 28, Iran has targeted U.S. and allied oil tankers, resulting in a staggering 90% decrease in traffic through these waters in recent weeks, despite some allowances for nations like China.

Trump has consistently called on regional and European allies to engage in securing this essential shipping route, although such collaboration carries inherent risks due to Iran’s preparations for disruptions through asymmetric warfare. Despite suffering heavy losses, Iran retains a fleet of speed boats, anti-ship missiles, mines, and drones.

Clearing the strait would involve thorough minesweeping and air support, as Iran can hinder traffic significantly without conventional naval power.
