Trump Appoints Aaron Lukas Following Gabbard’s Departure

On Friday, President Donald Trump revealed that Aaron Lukas will step in as acting director of national intelligence following Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation, effective at the end of June.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his appreciation for Gabbard’s contributions, noting that her decision was influenced by her husband’s health issues.

Gabbard made her resignation announcement due to her husband being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, emphasizing her need to be by his side during treatment.

During an Oval Office discussion, she informed Trump of her choice to resign, according to reports from Fox News Digital. There are suggestions that Gabbard may have been pressured to leave her position.

In her resignation letter shared on X, she expressed gratitude to Trump for the opportunity and reiterated her commitment to supporting her husband.

“I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming post,” she stated.

Trump confirmed that Lukas, currently the principal deputy, will assume the role on an interim basis as the administration prepares for Gabbard’s exit.

The former president has previously indicated some policy disagreements with Gabbard, particularly regarding Iran, labeling her as “softer” in her approach to Tehran’s nuclear agenda during a statement in March.

In his recent post, Trump reflected on Gabbard’s tenure and acknowledged her desire to prioritize family during this difficult time.
