President Donald Trump has officially put forth Dr. Nicole B. Saphier for the position of U.S. surgeon general. This nomination follows the withdrawal of Casey Means’ candidacy.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Dr. Nicole B. Saphier to be the next SURGEON GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
He praised Dr. Saphier as a remarkable physician, highlighting her experience in guiding women through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, Trump noted her dedication to promoting early cancer detection and prevention.
“She is also an INCREDIBLE COMMUNICATOR, who makes complicated health issues more easily understood by all Americans. Dr. Nicole Saphier will do great things for our Country, and help, ‘MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN,’” Trump concluded.
Dr. Saphier, who has a strong presence in conservative media and serves as director of breast imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth in New Jersey, represents Trump’s initiative to install a surgeon general reflecting his health agenda.
This move came after Trump’s decision to withdraw Means’ nomination, which faced significant challenges in the Senate due to her medical credentials and vaccine stance.
Trump specifically criticized Sen. Bill Cassidy for complicating Means’ confirmation, implying that his influence affected the outcome. This statement carries weight, as Cassidy is a crucial voice among Republicans on health nominees.
With Saphier now in line for confirmation, Trump seeks to position a talented physician and conservative advocate in a key public health role.
