Tragic Passing of ‘Game of Thrones’ Star at Just 35

Michael Patrick, an actor and writer from Ireland, has tragically passed away at the age of 35 after a courageous battle with Motor Neuron Disease, as shared by his wife.

He died in hospice care in Northern Ireland, with Naomi Sheehan confirming the sad news in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“Last night, Mick sadly passed away in the Northern Ireland Hospice,” she wrote. “He was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease 1st February 2023. He was admitted 10 days prior and received exceptional care from the staff there. He passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.”

This disease is a severe neurological condition that progressively impacts the nerves responsible for movement, leading to muscle weakness and deterioration over time. It affects activities like walking, talking, eating, and even breathing.

Sheehan highlighted Patrick’s profound influence that extended far beyond his health struggles.

“It’s been said more than once that Mick was an inspiration to everyone who was privileged to meet him, not just in recent years during his illness but throughout his whole life,” she reflected. “He lived a full and joyous life, full of spirit and infectious laughter. A true titan.”

She expressed gratitude to those who supported their family through these challenging two years and shared a beloved quote from Patrick.

“Mick cherished this quote from Brendan Behan, and it seems fitting now: ‘The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink, and somebody to love you.’ So, don’t overthink it. Eat. Drink. Love. Naomi — Mick’s wife.”

Earlier this year, Patrick made his final social media post, sharing that his neurologist estimated he had one year left to live.

“still lots to live for and lots planned,” he wrote.

Beyond his role in Game of Thrones, Patrick held various credits in productions such as Blue Lights and This Town. He co-wrote the BBC series My Left Nut, reflecting on his teenage years, and appeared in other works like Blasts from the Past and The Spectacular.

His latest project was the German TV movie Mordlichtern- Tod auf den Färöer Inseln, which is set to premiere in 2025.

According to his IMDb biography, Patrick’s acting journey began at the University of Cambridge, where he performed with the esteemed Cambridge Footlights comedy troupe, and he subsequently trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
