Top Lawyer for National Security Agency Is Fired

The National Security Agency (NSA) has removed April Doss from her position as general counsel, following revelations about her past work targeting President Donald Trump and her advocacy for government censorship of political speech.

Doss’s name and title were quietly scrubbed from the NSA’s official website. According to The New York Times, “multiple former officials” confirmed her removal. The move comes shortly after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said newly obtained documents showed a “conspiracy of manufactured intelligence” aimed at sabotaging President Trump.

Democrat-Backed Lawyer Tied to Discredited Russia Probe

Doss previously worked for Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee, where she was hired by Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) to investigate alleged ties between Trump and Russia—an investigation now widely discredited.

Warner strongly criticized her removal, calling it a politically motivated “smear campaign,” despite evidence tying Doss to multiple false claims and partisan legal actions.

“We should be outraged,” Warner told NBC News. “Her dismissal appears to be the result of a politically motivated smear campaign… not any legitimate concern about her conduct or qualifications.”

Daily Wire Exposé Triggers Fallout

A July 23 investigative report by The Daily Wire detailed how Doss defended surveillance of Trump associates, including Michael Flynn and Carter Page, while simultaneously advocating for censorship efforts targeting conservatives.

The report highlighted:

  • Her false claims about the January 6th protest, which she labeled an “insurrection,” even though no participants have been charged with insurrection.

  • Her support for government crackdowns on vaccine critics and claims that “right-wing extremists” were behind plots like the alleged kidnapping attempt of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, despite evidence of FBI involvement in entrapment.

  • Her vocal praise of the intelligence community’s role in investigating Trump, even after those investigations were debunked.

Hidden Hiring, Double Standards Exposed

The report also revealed that NSA leadership concealed Doss’s 2022 hiring from Congress, aware it would raise flags due to prior Democrat efforts to block a Republican nominee with a similar resume during Trump’s first term.

Officials reportedly feared accusations of double standards and partisan bias, given the highly political nature of Doss’s record.

Media Focuses on Distraction, Not the Story

Rather than addressing the substance of The Daily Wire’s findings, legacy media outlets latched onto a social media post from political activist Laura Loomer, who amplified the story.

  • The New York Times ran the sub-headline: “A far-right conspiracy theorist had amplified criticism of the lawyer and her previous work.”

  • MSNBC followed suit: “Right-wing influencer allegedly helps oust NSA leader.”

  • The Daily Beast: “Witch Hunter Laura Loomer Claims Scalp of NSA’s Top Lawyer.”

However, the original report notes that The Daily Wire contacted the Pentagon on July 17, well before Loomer reposted the article. The timeline strongly suggests that the investigative reporting—not social media—prompted the internal review.
