Rasmussen Reports chief pollster Mark Mitchell issued a stark warning on Tuesday during an appearance on The War Room with Steve Bannon:
President Trump’s approval rating is just one point away from his lowest net approval ever.
MITCHELL: Trump’s approval rating is one point away from the lowest net approval rating that he’s had. If it isn’t corrected, it threatens to derail Trump’s agenda and get rid of his political capital. If this isn’t fixed, it might hang over Trump’s administration. pic.twitter.com/hRdSJ3KhmI

What’s Driving the Drop?
According to Mitchell:
-
Trump’s approval rating has fallen 5 points in a week, now sitting at 47%.
-
Net approval is just 1 point away from the lowest it’s been this election cycle.
-
The decline comes despite major wins, including:
-
Trump’s signature economic legislation passed two weeks ago.
-
The elimination of Iran’s nuclear weapons program, which was “insanely popular.”
-
A summer environment where Democrats are imploding.
-
“Where his approval should be right now is soaring… It’s not. It’s plunging,” Mitchell said.
The Epstein Files Are Not Going Away
Mitchell blamed the collapse in approval on the Epstein backlash, calling out the Trump team’s “gaslighting” strategy.
“People are trying to say this isn’t a big deal… It’s an absolute misdirection.”
He warned that the administration’s dismissive tone, including Trump’s recent posts calling Epstein a “hoax,” is backfiring:
“If this isn’t fixed, it threatens to derail Trump’s agenda and erase his political capital.”
“This could be his Afghanistan — heading into the fall with Democrats still pounding away:‘Why did you flip-flop on Epstein?’”
Urgent Warning to Team Trump
Mitchell stressed that the solution is “easy” if the Trump administration reverses course now:
-
Acknowledge supporters’ concerns.
-
Reframe the message to show commitment to justice and transparency.
-
Avoid alienating the base by belittling the Epstein story.
“The American public is NOT buying the gaslighting.”
