Jack Schlossberg is the grandson and rising Democratic influencer of John F. Kennedy. He officially entered Wednesday’s race for the New York City House Seat being vacated from Rep. Jerry Nadler.
Schlossberg is a 31-year-old who has built up a huge social media audience and served recently as a Vogue political correspondent. He hopes to use his social media fame as a ticket into Congress, representing New York’s 12th District. Nadler, longtime leader of New York’s congressional delegation announced his decision to not run for reelection in September.
Schlossberg stated in a recent video that he was not running for office because he had all the solutions to our issues. I’m running for the New York 12 people. “I want to hear about your problems, your struggles and your stories. I will go to Washington to represent you.”
Schlossberg positioned his election as part of a Democratic campaign to stop former president Donald Trump and gain control of Congress.
He said, “We can and should do better. It starts by the Democratic Party regaining control of the House of Representatives.” With control of Congress we are able to do anything. We’re powerless without it to win a third term.”
Trump has hinted at a possible 2020 campaign and sold merchandise that suggested he might run, but he admitted in October that he could not under the Constitution.
Schlossberg is the clear frontrunner, but despite his 1.5 million TikTok followers and Instagram fans. Micah Lasher is the frontrunner, Nadler’s closest ally. He’s also a favorite of New York’s Democratic Establishment.
Lasher is backed by the local political machine, even though Kennedy’s name has some weight.
