Rep. Brandon Gill is publicly clashing with fellow House Republicans concerning immigration, labeling the DIGNIDAD Act as nothing short of “mass amnesty” and challenging its proponents to express its true implications.
Gill took to X to voice his concerns, asserting, “The Dignity Act is mass amnesty and represents a significant betrayal of our voters,” after GOP members like Rep. Mike Lawler promoted renewed interest in the legislation. He directly addressed the bill’s supporters: “If your bill were so popular, you’d be straightforward about what it does. The DIGNIDAD Act provides mass amnesty to over 10 million illegal aliens.”
He declared, “I’ll be clear about what I want: mass deportations. Will you admit DIGNIDAD is an amnesty bill?” The DIGNIDAD Act, officially known as H.R. 4393, proposes a sweeping immigration package aimed at creating a legalization program for certain undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. for years, alongside enforcement improvements. This bill, introduced in 2025, has become a significant point of contention within a GOP conference pledged to border security.
Divided Opinions on Immigration
Conservative critics argue that any form of legal status for those who entered illegally equates to amnesty, contradicting the demands of Republican voters after years of border instability. Proponents of the bill counter that it includes background checks, fines, and specific eligibility regulations, arguing it aims to bring individuals “out of the shadows” while prioritizing the removal of criminals.
This argument has failed to appease the base, nor has it pacified Gill. He strongly criticized the bill, stating, “The ‘DIGNIDAD Act’ grants legal status to approximately 12 million illegal aliens, significantly raises legal immigration levels, and expands work visas at the expense of American workers, thus undermining wages. Use all the euphemistic generalizations you want, but it’s still an amnesty bill.”
Gill indicated that the issue poses a direct challenge to Republican commitments made after the 2024 elections, stating, “Mass migration devastates our working class, disrupts America’s social fabric, and alters our communities. This bill exacerbates those issues. Our voters seek to reclaim their country. They demanded mass deportations, and that’s what we owe them.”
🚨 BREAKING: Rep. Brandon Gill just went WAR MODE against GOP Rep. Maria E. Salazar’s DIGNIDAD amnesty bill, warning it would legalize 10 MILLION people if passed
This bill must be DOA!

In response, Rep. Salazar, the bill’s main supporter, defended the proposal, arguing that critics are mischaracterizing it as a giveaway. She described it as an enforcement-first initiative, emphasizing zero tolerance for criminals and permanent border security. “This is enforcement first: zero tolerance for criminals, permanent border security, and hard-earned requirements to step forward and face the law, protecting American workers,” she stated.
Salazar also contested Gill’s interpretation, declaring, “Amnesty is the chaos you’ve supported, with millions living in the shadows and a system lacking control. No shortcuts or blanket forgiveness. That’s law and order. That’s DIGNITY.”

The conflict has spilled beyond social media exchanges, with conservative organizations pressing Republicans to revert any attempts to “rebrand” legalization. One group, Republican National Conservative, contended that lawmakers are disregarding voter sentiments, asserting, “The American public didn’t endorse welfare for illegals or immigration loopholes. They voted to reverse the chaos that Joe Biden allowed at our borders.”
This is the kind of Orwellian doublespeak we expect from the Left, not our own party.
The reality is that under the current system, illegal aliens ARE being deported.
We are not living under an amnesty regime, and it’s dishonest to say we are.
Our only objective right now… https://t.co/jBLaGGCKJG

Additionally, the group specifically criticized Lawler, stating, “Mike Lawler pretends he isn’t promoting amnesty while in fact doing just that. The GOP base should question why a Republican is aiding Democrats by easing penalties for illegals.”

Currently, the future of the bill remains uncertain. Nevertheless, it is clear that a portion of the GOP wants to focus on enforcement, deportations, and deterrence instead of legalization. The MAGA constituency signals its fatigue with any calls for “comprehensive reform” that could lead to legal status, regardless of its terminology.
