A Florida college student is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly killing her newborn daughter and discarding the body in a campus dumpster. Brianne Moore, now 20, was 19 years old and a student at the University of Tampa when she gave birth in her dorm bathroom in April 2024.
The baby girl was later found deceased. A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Text Messages Reveal “Plan C” Comments
Newly released text messages have become central to the prosecution’s case. In messages dated seven months before the birth, Moore appeared to joke about killing a child as a form of birth control.
In a conversation with a male acquaintance named Quasim, the two referenced various “plans”:
The exchange was presented in court and cited by CourtTV. Defense attorney Jonah Dickstein argued that the conversation was about abortion laws, not the specific pregnancy, and stated Quasim was not the child’s father.
Moore Claims She Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Moore told investigators she was unaware of her pregnancy until her water broke on April 27, 2024. She gave birth alone in the MaKay Hall dormitory bathroom, saying she laid the baby down and took a shower.
Moore stated the baby wasn’t moving and she didn’t hear a heartbeat. Panicked, she wrapped the baby in a towel, took a nap, and later placed the baby in a dumpster outside the building.
Medical Examiner: Infant Died from Asphyxia
An autopsy revealed signs of trauma, including rib fractures and hemorrhaging in the lungs. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was:
“Asphyxia due to compression of the torso with rib fractures.”
Authorities say the injuries are consistent with homicide.

Moore faces up to 30 years in prison. She is charged with:
-
Aggravated manslaughter of a child
-
Child neglect
-
Failure to report a death
-
Unlawful storage, preservation, or transportation of human remains
