New Hampshire State Police have identified the driver involved in the car accident that injured former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani over the weekend.
Lauren Kemp, 19, of Concord, was behind the wheel of a Honda HR-V that struck the rear of the Ford Bronco carrying Giuliani on Saturday evening, police confirmed Sunda. No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation.
Giuliani’s Injuries
Giuliani, 81, was hospitalized after suffering a fractured thoracic vertebra, lacerations, contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
His head of security, Michael Ragusa, said that Giuliani’s condition “continues to improve” and he is expected to be discharged in the coming days.
Ted Goodman, Giuliani’s spokesperson who was driving the Bronco, and Kemp also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Circumstances of the Crash
Police said troopers were already on Interstate 93 investigating a domestic violence report shortly before 10 p.m. when they witnessed the collision in the northbound lanes.
Both vehicles struck the median and were left “heavily damaged.”
Before the accident, Giuliani had stopped to assist a woman who flagged him down as a domestic violence victim.
Ragusa said Giuliani remained on scene until officers arrived, then resumed his trip — only for his vehicle to be “struck from behind at high speed.”
Reactions
Giuliani thanked his business partner Maria Ryan, a nurse practitioner overseeing his care, writing on X:
“Thank you to @MariaRyanNH who is a board certified nurse practitioner overseeing the care of America’s Mayor. (Nurse practitioners do everything a doctor does except surgery).”
His son, Andrew Giuliani, also shared a message of gratitude:
“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world. As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen!”
Ongoing Investigation
New Hampshire State Police said no charges have been filed at this time but emphasized that “all aspects of the crash” remain under review.
