Sydney Sweeney’s Voter Registration Revealed Amid American Eagle’s Ad Backlash

Actress Sydney Sweeney has been revealed as a registered Republican in Florida, according to voter records reviewed by The Post. The news broke over the weekend as the woke backlash over her American Eagle denim campaign continued to spiral.

Sweeney, 27, has been registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County since June 2024, public records confirm. Her affiliation was first reported by Buzzfeed News after a viral post on X suggested the actress’s political leanings were conservative.

“I just found out this lady is an actual registered member of the Republican Party as of 2024,” the user wrote.

American Eagle Campaign Sparks Firestorm

The renewed scrutiny stems from American Eagle’s fall denim campaign, which features the Euphoria and White Lotus star under the tagline:
“Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.”

Critics claimed the campaign’s play on the word “genes” was a racialized dog whistle, accusing the brand of echoing eugenics and “Nazi propaganda” because of Sweeney’s blonde hair and blue eyes.

One ad shows Sweeney narrating:

“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring… often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color… my jeans are blue.”

Another clip shows her editing a billboard that reads, “Sydney Sweeney has great genes,” altering it to say “jeans.”

American Eagle, Trump Team Push Back

American Eagle issued a statement defending the actress and the campaign:

“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

The company reiterated its message of inclusivity and self-expression, dismissing the criticism as a misrepresentation of the campaign’s intent.

President Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, also weighed in, calling the backlash “cancel culture run amok.”

Not the First Time Sweeney Has Upset the Left

This isn’t Sweeney’s first brush with controversy from the political left.

In 2022, the actress faced backlash after her family threw a “Make Sixty Great Again” birthday party for her mother, where some attendees wore “Blue Lives Matter” apparel and red caps inspired by the MAGA slogan.

At the time, Sweeney dismissed the outrage as a misinterpretation, calling it “absurd.”

Silence from Sweeney, But Message Received

Though Sweeney has not publicly responded to the recent backlash, her silent social media post—a photo of pink roses with a white heart emoji—was widely seen as a subtle reply to the controversy.

With her Republican registration now confirmed, Sweeney finds herself once again at odds with Hollywood’s progressive mainstream—but seemingly unbothered by the noise.
