Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has stated that she is preparing herself to make a decision on the results of a disputed presidential election.
In an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell, Jackson said that the court needs to be ready for such a scenario.
“I think there are legal issues that arise out of the political process,” Jackson said during an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell.
“And so, the Supreme Court has to be prepared to respond — if — if that should be necessary,” she added.
O’Donnell then directly asked Jackson if she felt personally prepared for a Supreme Court ruling.
“As prepared as anyone can be,” Jackson responded.
“Let me ask you, are you prepared for all of the news cycles that you’re getting as a result of this election?” she continued.
“Um, no,” O’Donnell responded.
Jackson was also asked to comment on her recent dissent regarding a court ruling that granted Donald Trump immunity for official acts performed during his presidency, a significant legal victory for the former president.
“I was concerned about a system that appeared to provide immunity for one individual under one set of circumstances, when we have a criminal justice system that had ordinarily treated everyone the same,” Jackson explained.
Although it’s impossible to predict a Supreme Court justice’s vote with certainty, Jackson’s alignment with the Biden administration and her position on the court’s liberal wing suggest she would likely support the Harris campaign in any electoral dispute.
After the 2020 presidential election, in which allegations of widespread voter fraud were raised by the Democratic Party, the Supreme Court chose not to review the substantial evidence that could have potentially awarded Donald Trump a second term.
