Senate Passes ‘National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk’

The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The measure designates Oct. 14, 2025, as a “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.”

Senate Action

The resolution was introduced by Sen. Rick Scott of Florida.

Scott said the date coincides with what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday.

He praised Kirk’s contributions to civic education and public service.

“Charlie was taken from us in a disgusting act of political violence,” Scott said.

He called Kirk a “good man” whose life was guided by faith.

Scott said Kirk valued debate and discussion as essential to America’s future.

The resolution passed without opposition in the upper chamber.

Meaning of the Resolution

The measure is a simple resolution, not a federal holiday.

It expresses the sentiments of the Senate rather than binding law.

It encourages schools, civic groups, and citizens to participate.

Suggested observances include programs, prayers, and ceremonies.

The goal is to promote civic engagement and Kirk’s principles.

Organizers of vigils have already embraced similar memorial themes.

National Mourning

Kirk’s assassination on Sept. 10 shocked the conservative movement.

He was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

His death prompted vigils in Salt Lake City, Washington, and Houston.

Other gatherings took place in Phoenix, Florida, and abroad.

Community members and students honored Kirk’s legacy of activism.

Speakers described him as a fearless advocate for free speech.

House Companion Resolution

Rep. Jimmy Patronis of Florida introduced a similar resolution in the House.

Patronis said Kirk was a “warrior of free speech, faith, and principle.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged swift passage in the chamber.

Mike Johnson

Johnson said the resolution also condemns the political violence.

Lawmakers expect overwhelming bipartisan support when the vote comes.

The effort reflects a growing push to memorialize Kirk nationwide.

Erika Kirk’s Leadership

Kirk is survived by his wife Erika and their two children.

She was named CEO and board chair of Turning Point USA on Sept. 18.

In a livestream, she promised to expand her husband’s mission.

“I will never let your legacy die,” Erika declared.

She vowed to make TPUSA “the biggest thing this nation has ever seen.”

Her leadership cements continuity for the conservative youth movement.
