Seahawks’ Klint Kubiak Says ‘Our Identity Is In Christ’ As Seattle Prepares For Super Bowl

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is headed into Super Bowl week with one message he says matters more than any play call, stat line, or career milestone.

“Our identity is in Christ.”

Kubiak shared that reflection during Super Bowl Opening Night in an interview with Sports Spectrum, when asked about the role faith plays in his life and coaching career. The response came as Seattle prepares for Super Bowl LX, where the Seahawks will face the New England Patriots on football’s biggest stage.

“This is my favorite question of the night,” Kubiak said. “I’ve learned from many chaplains that I get to be around different teams that your identity is not in your job. Our identity is in Christ.”

Kubiak explained that embracing that mindset fundamentally changed how he approaches both football and life. He credited mentors throughout his coaching journey for encouraging him to spend more time in Scripture and participate in Bible studies, a habit he says helped remove pressure that often comes with the NFL.

“It took a really heavy load off,” he said. “Just knowing that I’m a child of God and football is something that I do. Trying to be a good father and be a faithful husband is way more important than any of that.”

The comments resonated as Seattle continues a remarkable season under Kubiak’s guidance. In his first year as offensive coordinator, he oversaw a dramatic turnaround for a Seahawks unit that had struggled the year before. Seattle vaulted from a middle-of-the-pack offense to one of the league’s most efficient attacks, finishing near the top of the NFL in scoring and total yardage while earning a 14–3 record and the NFC’s top seed.

Head coach Mike Macdonald has repeatedly praised Kubiak’s leadership and clarity, noting that his approach meshed seamlessly with the team’s culture and helped steady the offense throughout the postseason.

Kubiak’s faith also showed up in a quieter, more personal way during the holiday season. During the interview, he was asked about reports that he gifted every player and coach on the Seahawks a Bible for Christmas.

“That’s the most important thing,” Kubiak said. “You’re trying to find Christmas gifts for guys every year to show them that you love them. And what better gift than that?”

While Kubiak laughed off the idea of revealing who shared the story, the gesture underscored the values he says guide him beyond wins and losses.

The 38-year-old coach’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed across the league. Reports indicate he is expected to become the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders once the Super Bowl concludes, a testament to how highly his work in Seattle is regarded. Still, Kubiak has remained focused on the task at hand, keeping his attention on preparing the Seahawks for Sunday’s showdown.

A native of Houston, Texas, Kubiak played safety at Colorado State before entering the coaching ranks in 2010. His résumé includes stops with multiple NFL teams and college programs, and he carries a well-known football lineage as the son of former Super Bowl-winning head coach Gary Kubiak.
