Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has leveled a serious accusation against a member of the media, claiming that during the chaos of Saturday’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a reporter expressed a wish for President Trump to die.
Sharing details in a video posted on X by the Daily Wire’s Lynden Blake, Ogles recounted hearing the comment inside the Washington Hilton as guests sought cover following the gunfire.
“There was a reporter, I probably shouldn’t say this, but I’m going to say it,” Ogles stated.
He recounted, “There was a reporter in the room who was under a table, and when the shots went off and everybody’s hiding, she said, ‘I hope they kill the orange MF.’” This remark left Ogles in disbelief, particularly coming from a journalist.
“That was a journalist in the room who was hoping that when she stood up, the President of the United States would be dead,” he emphasized.
Ogles argued that this incident reflects a troubling shift in the political landscape, moving from rational debate to outright hostility.
“So I’m coming to a public venue where I know it might be hostile, to expose myself to an honest dialogue,” he explained. “But when you have members of the press openly enticing, hoping, talking about killing the chief executive officer of this country, again, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, I don’t care. That’s a problem.”
He reiterated the reporter’s remark as “I hope they killed the orange MF.”

Later, he shared the clip on his own X account, framing it as evidence of a left that no longer engages in political discourse but rather sees it as warfare.
“To the Left, it’s no longer a battlefield of ideas; it’s open warfare,” Ogles wrote.
This allegation comes at a time when political rhetoric is under intense scrutiny, especially after the shooting disrupted the typically lighthearted gala, a notable event for journalists and public officials.

Karol Markowicz, writing for the New York Post, argued that violent rhetoric directed at Trump has regrettably become normalized in today’s political environment.
“We’ve become desensitized to violent rhetoric like this when it comes from the left, specifically because it is mimicked by Democratic elected officials,” she stated.

Markowicz argued that Democrats have the power to denounce such rhetoric, making it clear that they do not support violence.
“They can tell the truth and call a halt to the intense hatred that’s motivating sick people to take their best shot at our president. If they don’t, the American people should see their silence as tacit approval.”
