Producer Of Popular TV Series Found Dead In Hotel Room

Dana Eden, the producer behind the internationally acclaimed Israeli drama series “Tehran,” was found dead in a hotel room in Athens, Greek authorities said. She was 52.

Police discovered Eden’s body Sunday and are investigating the death as a suspected suicide, according to local reports. Eden had been in the Greek capital working on production for the fourth season of the Apple TV+ spy thriller, which follows a Mossad agent attempting to penetrate Iran’s regime.

Israeli broadcaster Kan reported that Eden’s brother found her body.

Greek outlet Ta Nea reported that Eden had bruises on her neck and lower body. No official cause of death has been publicly released. The production company behind “Tehran” rejected speculation that Eden’s death involved criminal activity.

“The production company wants to make it clear that the rumors of the death being criminal or nationalistic are not true and baseless,” a spokesperson for Donna and Shula Productions told the Times of Israel.

“We call on the media and the public not to publish unfounded theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity. This is a moment of immense pain for the family, friends, and colleagues.

“We want to preserve Dana’s dignity and her privacy.”

Israeli broadcasting leaders expressed grief over Eden’s death, describing her as a major force in the country’s television industry.

“Dana was among the senior figures in the Israeli television industry and was a central figure in the creation and leadership of some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions,” the corporation said.

Eden’s career spanned multiple successful projects. In addition to “Tehran,” she previously worked on “Saving the Wildlife,” “She Has It,” and “Shakshouka,” programs that helped cement her reputation as a leading creative voice in Israeli media.

Tehran,” one of Israel’s most high-profile television exports, has earned global recognition for its tense storytelling and contemporary geopolitical themes. The series won an International Emmy Award in 2021, a milestone achievement that elevated its international profile. It later secured a nomination for a Critics Choice Award in 2023 in the Best Foreign Language Series category.

The show’s third season premiered on Apple TV+ on Jan. 9 after a delay. It had originally been slated for release last July, but the date was pushed back. The postponement came during a period of heightened regional tensions following Israel’s brief 12-day conflict with Iran.

Eden played a central role in guiding the series through its latest chapters, helping oversee a production that blended espionage drama with real-world stakes. Her sudden death sent shockwaves through Israel’s entertainment community, where colleagues remembered her as a seasoned producer known for steady leadership behind the scenes.
