Police Reveal Suspected Cause of Death for US Attorney Found Inside Home

Former US Attorney Jessica Aber, who was found dead Saturday morning in her Virginia home, appeared to have succumbed to natural causes, according to authorities.

“At this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” Alexandria police said in an update Tuesday evening.

The body of 43-year-old lawyer Jessica Aber, who led the Office of the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia during the Biden administration, was discovered by police around 9:20 a.m.

Her death prompted an outpouring of condolences from former and current Department of Justice officials.

A family friend previously told NBC News that police believed she died from a medical problem, and two former senior Justice Department officials also told the outlet that local law enforcement didn’t believe foul play was involved.

No official cause or manner of death has been released so far.

“The investigation is ongoing, and the case will remain open until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) returns a final ruling on the cause and manner of death,” Alexandria police said in the Tuesday statement.

“We urge the public to respect the privacy of Ms. Aber’s family during this time of loss.”

Aber, whose office gained accolades for prosecuting CIA leaks and Russian nationals carrying out fraud in the US, resigned when President Trump took over on Jan. 20.

Further updates about how Aber died would come from the medical examiner, police said.
